IR Receiver and Controller

Aim

The goal of this activity is to demonstrate how to integrate an Infra-Red Receiver (IR) with Arduino and capture the signals sent to it from a remote controller (RC). The captured signals will be used to switch on the LEDs placed on the breadboard.

Materials Required

1. Arduino UNO R3 – 1
2. USB Cable – 1
3. Breadboard – 1
4. LEDs – 3
5. 220Ω Resistors – 3
6. IR (Infra-Red) Receiver – 1
7. IR Remote Controller – 1
8. Several Jumper Wires

Desired Outcome

The IR receiver should be ready to receive the signals. Take the remote controller provided in your kit and press the buttons to get the following result:
1. Press 1 to switch on the first LED, the left most one. Press 1 again to switch off the LED.
2. Press 2 to switch on the second LED, the middle one. Press 2 again to switch off the LED.
3. Press 3 to switch on the third LED, the right most one. Press 3 again to switch off the LED.
4. You can switch on and switch off any of the LEDs, not necessarily in sequence.
